Season 8 Episode 2 Titled ‘A Stereotypical Day’, was an Important First
In a move that could be termed as historic, the popular American sitcom Modern Family featured a transgender child actor in its latest episode. The 8 year old child actor, Jackson Millarker featured on the show as Lily’s friends Tom, who identifies with being a boy. Here’s a small clip from the episode;
Modern Family is breaking down barriers again in this season. With their much acclaimed portrayal of same-sex marriage in their previous episode, and sam-sex couple Cameron and Mitchell (Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson) starting a family, this is a another big win for the show.
The episode unfolds with the pair’s daughter, Lily inviting her transgender friend Tom over for a playdate. Cam and Mitchell have always felt they are the most open, non-judgmental and supportive parents and are proud of her for being so accepting. However, they are taken a-back when they over hear Lily insulting Tom. Now they will have to introspect and use the moment to teach her a lesson about acceptance.
