Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio won the much awaited Oscar award for his performance in the flick ‘The Revenant’ at the award ceremony held on February 28, 2016. DiCaprio managed to bag the award after four unsuccessful nominations.
The ‘Titanic’ star was filled with emotions as he claimed his award and was cheered by mother Irmelin and friend Kate Winslet. Leonardo opened his heart with a lengthy acceptance speech and said, ‘Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world…climate change is real.’
Finally, the actor concluded, ‘Let us not take our planet for granted,’ I do not take tonight for granted.’ Leonardo claimed his first Oscar in 1994 for ‘Whats Eating Gilbert Grape’ when he was just 20 years old. In 2004 the actor was nominated for the Best Actor for the movie ‘The Aviator’. Later the star also earned the Best Actor nomination for ‘Blood Diamond’ in 2006. Most recent nomination for Leo was nominated for the ‘Wolf Of Wall Street in 2013.
Other winners at the ceremony included late singer Amy Winehouse for the best feature documentary. Director Asif Kapadia used archival footage and testimonials to show a few works of Winehouse. The singer had died from accidental alcohol poisoning in 2011.
