German authorities have given a months time to Canadian teen pop star Justin Bieber to provide the necessary papers to release his pet monkey ‘Mally’. Officials from customs had seized the pet monkey from the singer at Munich Airport last week.
Bieber had failed to produce the health and species protection certificates for the animal, which are required to bring the pet into the country. The 19-year-old visited the country for a concert and since then has continued on his tour.
The animal shelter which is currently taking care of Mally said, “If he doesn’t (present the papers), Mally will be taken to a good animal shelter that has experience rearing groups of young capuchin monkeys and can ensure disoriented Mally becomes a healthy little capuchin”. The shelter also said that Mally is about 14 weeks old and was taken away from his mother too early.
The monkey has been receiving veterinary care ever since he was taken away from Beiber. A spokesperson from Munich’s customs office said that it would decide whether the animal was to be kept in the current shelter, or to be moved to another place by the end of the four week deadline. The shelter also said that Bieber might also have to pay a fine, but it declined to reveal about the amount.
