Rihanna gives back to Barbados with USD 1.75 million hospital donation

Pop singer Rihanna has decided to give back some kindness to her home town of Barbados by donating USD 1.75 million to a hospital in memory of her late grandmother.

The ‘Diamonds’ singer said that the three pieces of medical equipment that will be bought with the money will help to save or extend lives and that it was her way of giving back to Barbados. After fighting a long battle with cancer Clara ‘Dolly’ Braithwaite, who was Rihanna’s grandmother, passed away in June 30, 2012. The ‘Where Have You Been’ singer had said that her heart ‘smiled and cried all at once’ when her grandmother passed away and the star had even taken days off her European festival tour to spend time with her.

The radiotherapy unit at the hospital has been renamed in honor of the ‘Man Down’ singers late grandmother to Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine. During the announcement the ‘Umbrella’ singer was joined by her grandfather Lionel and monther Monica Braithwaite.

Rihanna has been raised in Barbados and is one of the world’s leading female musicians, earning USD 53 million in 2012. She has scored a successful hit around the world with ‘Diamonds’ and her ‘Unapologetic’ tour has turned out to be a top notch effort.
