The Chained To The Rhythm singer may get a completely new gig. If reports are to be believed, then Katy Perry has been approached to play the role of a judge for the rebooted singing competition, American Idol. The show is set to premiere later in 2018, but the producers are settling on getting a brand new, sparkly set of judges. Former judge, Simon Cowell has announced that he doesn’t want to be a part of the reboot, so that leaves his seat unattended. If Perry agrees to doing American Idol, this will be her first foray into reality shows.
American Idol has seen a number of top singers contribute their time and expertise for the show. Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Shania Twain, among others, have either stayed on for entire seasons, or dropped in as special guests. Having Katy Perry on board will be great, considering she has stayed on top of her game for over a decade now, with a number of hit No. 1s on the charts.
Ryan Seacrest, who has been hosting American Idol from the start, will continue with his gig for the upcoming season. The makers are leaving no stone unturned to get the best of the best to resurrect one of the most popular reality shows in the history of American television. There were reports that due to the high salaries being paid to Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr, that the show had to close its doors after fifteen successful seasons.
Katy Perry has not been a fan of judging for reality shows in the past. She did do a short judging gig for The X Factor, but that didn’t last long. She had also been offered a seat for The Voice, with remunerations that reached to eight figures, but she turned that down as well. If she does sign the dotted line, it will be quite a reboot to look forward to!
