This cannot be good news for anyone involved with the latest Hollywood flick, Man Down. The Shia LaBeouf starrer has become the first movie in history to have the lowest opening rating in the United Kingdom. Apparently, the film earned only £7 at the box office this past weekend! In US currency terms, that’s round-about $9 – the cost of approximately one ticket. Man Down was screened at one theatre – Reel Cinema Theatre in the English city of Burnley. Movie watchers are usually pretty hardcore there, but this time, they weren’t game to watching what Shia LaBeouf had to offer.
Man Down is the story of a soldier during the post-war period, who suffers from PTSD. Man Down is directed by Dito Montiel and has LaBeouf in the lead. The film was already released in the United States some time last year, and managed to gross only $454,490. Not only that, but Rotten Tomatoes has given Man Down a meagre rating of 15%. This one’s probably the last movie that you would want to watch. The film also stars Kate Mara and Jai Courtney.
Shia LaBeouf has been in the news for more bizarre reasons than this. A few years ago, he was arrested for misbehaving in public, pub brawls and outlandish behavior. Also, he released some pretty bizarre videos that had people questioning his sanity. He’s been out of the Hollywood scene though, with his last most significant movies being the Transformers series. Last year, he got secretly married to his long-time partner, Mia Goth and the two had a not-so-traditional wedding ceremony in Las Vegas, that included an Elvis Presley impersonator officiating their union.
His luck doesn’t look so good anymore, with him being portrayed now as one of the most un-bankable stars in the film industry. It’s really surprising that such a film would do so bad, especially with a known actor at the helm who has previously worked on multi-million dollar movies.
