American Crime Story Season 3 will feature the murder of Gianni Versace, the prolific Italian fashion designer who started his Versace brand in 1978. Then in 1997, he was shot dead outside his beachside home in Miami by serial killer, Andrew Cunanan. The motive for murder was never understood, since Cunanan committed suicide on a boat one week later. The future of Versace was at stake, which was taken over by Gianni’s sister, Donatella Versace, who built the brand into what it is today, making it a family business and one of the most sought-after brands in the world. Versace grew into a fashion house that plays designer to a number of stars including Elton John, the late Michael Jackson and also created iconic looks like Elizabeth Hurley’s black dress and the plunging green dress worn by Jennifer Lopez in 2000.
