This was a day no Marvel fan wanted to see coming, but here it is at last. As the precise saying goes, Hugh Jackman was not just a good actor playing the part of X-Men’s Wolverine, he is Wolverine. But now, dusk is finally finally falling on what will be the end of an epic era when he takes his final bow in Logan. As we’ve seen in the trailers preceding the actual release of the film, Logan has aged and yet he makes his final attempt to redeem not only himself, but a new character with strikingly similar characteristics as his own.

Since the very first X-Men movie was released in 2000, we have witnessed Wolverine come a long way. We were also fortunate enough to go back into the past with him and learn his personal evolutional story with X-Men Origins: Wolverine – how he was just Logan once, who transformed to the nearly indestructible Wolverine through an extremely painful mutation that gave him super-human abilities. In Logan, it looks like Wolverine has gone back to his secluded life, with age taking over him. But, he is soon contacted by his dear friend and fellow mutant, Professor X, to help a seemingly vulnerable little girl escape the bad guys.

We did not know then, but we do now, that this one is none other than X-23, aka Laura Kinney. She was initially created as a damaged copy of the original Wolverine, and has the same retractable Adamantium claws that protrude from her fists. Like the comics, she is a perfect killing machine, and she and Logan have a strong bond, because only he can understand how she feels with her plight that will plague her for the rest of her life. It is now Logan’s chance to guide her on a path to becoming the next Wolverine, as soon as his time is done.

We don’t know if we will ever see Wolverine again on the big screen, as part of an ensemble cast for the X-Men franchise, or if X-23 will take over from where her mentor left off. This one is going to be a major hit with fans, because we love Hugh Jackman and his acting has always been so raw, real and believable.
