Hollywood FAQs: After the earlier claims that American actor and host Jerry Lewis will not be deserting Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) telethon, the actor has resigned from the organization. The 85-year-old show host has given up his chairmanship position.

The actor has also given up his position as the host. Nigel Lythgoe, who is now the now the new chairman, had announced Lewis’s retirement on Sunday.

The representatives of the actor had said that the earlier reports which had said that he is not giving up as the chairman was faulty. Nigel, while announcing the news, had stated that it is easy to sit in the position, but he cannot be a replacement to Lewis.

Nigel had mentioned that Lewis had done so many things while he was the chairman for the organization and its families. The executive producer of American Idol also added that it was close to a miracle what he had done when he was the chairman.
