Hollywood FAQs: Speculation aside, it is now official! ‘ Norbit’ actor Eddie Murphy will host the 84th Academy Awards in 2012 and the news was made official by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Over the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation regarding the latest host of the world renowned awards ceremony. But all that came to an end on Tuesday, when the news of the comedian as the new host was made official.
Certain media reports have stated that ‘Tower Heist producer Brett Ratner wanted Murphy as the host of the awards ceremony. The producer thought that Murphy has a good comedy background and can pull of the awards ceremony with his skills. Ratner and Murphy have a good rapport with each other as he had directed the upcoming movie of the actor Tower Heist with Ben Stiller.
The movie is all set to be released in theatres on 4th November 2011.
“I am enormously honoured to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others,” Murphy said in a statement after the news was revealed.
The 2012 Academy Awards will be telecasted live on 26th February 2012.
