He broke records and won accolades during his early days as one of the top pro-wrestlers on WWE, known then simply as “The Rock”. After a successful transition to Hollywood, with many hits under his acting belt, Dwayne Johnson can add one more title to his name: People Magazine’ Sexiest Man Alive! He takes over the title from English footballer, David Beckham and joins the list of past sexiest men including Ryan Reynolds, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper, among others. And the best part? He is the first non-white man to win this!
The actor, who will next be seen (or heard) as demigod Maui in Disney’s Moana was really happy to receive the call before the announcement was made public. He said: “I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then what went through my mind was just how cool and exciting it is. And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all. This is it.”
The Scorpion King then spoke about how he is going to get teased by his mates, since he’s won the title that only one man in the whole entire world gets to call himself every year: “It’s coming now. I can just imagine how it’s going to be. But see, here’s the thing. They give me grief, but they all wish. They all wish!”
So, what got him to where he is? What makes him the “Sexiest Man Alive”? One cannot put aside that his hard work has paid off. His dedication to his professional life, as well as personal (he recently welcomed a baby girl) and the tons and tons of effort to get his body ripped AF. He says it’s his sense of humor that’s sexiest about him. But continues on a genuine note: “Just not trying to be sexy and just being cool and confident in your movies. I think with a lot of my fans, I’ve gotten to a very, very cool place where there’s a direct line between the man they know off-screen and the man they know on-screen.”
At 44 years old, he’s definitely ageing well, like true French fine wine. Here’s wishing the actor another year of success and blockbusters that keep him in the A-list league.
