Quick Synopsis of Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is a story of Dr. Stephen Strange, a famous neurosurgeon who loses his hands after a horrific car accident. He is forced to look for other healing alternatives after traditional medicine fails to work. Dr. Strange turns to an unusual healing center known as Kamar Taj.

He later learns that this is not just a healing center but also a center for fighting unseen dark forces that want to destroy our reality. Strange acquires super powers and must choose whether to return to his rich lifestyle or fight the dark forces as a powerful sorcerer.

Directed by Scott Derrickson with Kevin Feige as producer, Doctor Strange has a run time of 130 minutes. The entire cast of the film includes, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Mads Mikkelsen as Unnamed Villian, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Benedict Wong as Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.

The character was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in Strange Tales#110, in 1963 – the same duo that created Spiderman. The comics were distinguished by Steve Ditko’s psychedelic art and bizarre spells cast by the versatile character.

Here’s the trailer of ‘Doctor Strange’. Movie is set to release on November 4, 2016.

Analysis of the World Premiere Trailer of ‘Doctor Strange’

It’s an Origin Story

Looks like the movie’s origin story falls in line with Doctor Strange’s comic book origin, which was first told in Strange Tales #115 in 1963 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Doctor Strange himself first appeared a few issues earlier, in Strange Tales #110, as a mysterious sorcerer with no real explanations for why he was the Sorcerer Supreme.

The character of Strange is that of a gifted neurosurgeon who is arrogant and irresponsible. He’s in a horrific car accident later which causes impairment of his motor functions (as you can see his hands shake in the trailer). And you can’t perform brain surgery with shaky hands – so Stephen Strange travels the world to find a cure that will completely heal him. This is how he meets The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) – the virtually immortal magical guardian- who initiates Strange into the world of Sorcery and magic.

One of the Doc’s key tricks is astral projection. Strange can send his body to faraway places and dimensions, allowing him to deal with threats he may not be able to  handle in his regular, physical form. However, the catch is that while he’s doing that – his body is completely helpless. This is what you are seeing here.

But the interesting part is that this is the only super-power we see in the trailer – which is rather unusual for a super hero movie. Astral projection seems to be his only power, which needs to be activated by The Ancient One, leaving his body helpless.

We are waiting for follow up trailer to release and hopefully bring us more from the Doctor Strange universe.

There Most Definitely Are Villains

Traditionally, Baron Mordo is the villain of the story. Mordo has been around for as long as Doctor Strange himself, first appearing in the second Doc story, in Strange Tales #111. However, we learn more about Baron Mordo in Strange Tales #115.

Essentially, Mordo is The Ancient One’s star pupil. Well, that’s off course until Strange comes along and steals his thunder, making Baron Mordo his stark enemy. Turns out Mordo was a villainous dick to begin with as he was planning The Ancient One’s murder.

Here’s a better look at Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo…
