Actress Sara Ramirez, who we all know as her alter-ego, Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, as come out officially as bisexual! Yes! On-screen, she showed us her vulnerable side as a bisexual doctor who had to come to terms with her own sexuality, as well as earn the love of her extremely orthodox father. In real life, though, she is getting all the support she needs from co-stars and fans.
A few days ago, Ramirez had cut her hair, buzz on the side and short on top, and her look was more brazen and outgoing, which seems to have helped her speak her truth. Then yesterday, she was visiting and taking part in True Colors: 40 to None Summit in Los Angeles.
Sara, being a woman of color, as well as bisexual, as well as not conforming to the stick-thin figure that Hollywood demands, has a lot of odds to beat. But she was confident, as she made a speech for homeless LGBTQ youth spread all over Los Angeles, saying: “So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections – whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status. And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply, deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”
