More than 15,000 to 20,000 fans of the singer from around the globe, which included England, Japan and Germany, had gathered outside the king’s residence and also had left flowers and mementos at the gravesite of the singer.
Many of the fans had even sported pompadours and sideburns in order to tribute the rock and roll star. The vigil is one of the events of the Elvis Week, which is an annual celebration that is held at the Memphis estate.
The Memphis estate is the place where the singer-actor had died. Elvis had died on 16th August in the year 1977 at the age of 42. The singer at that age had suffered multiple ailments which included high blood pressure, glaucoma, liver damage, enlarged colon, which was possibly caused by drug abuse. Elvis was actually scheduled to begin a tour on 16th August in the year 1977. But then the singer was found unresponsive in his bathroom. Attempts were made to revive the singer but at 3:30 pm the singer was announced dead.
