What’s Already Happened…
The end of Season 6 of HBO’s Game of Thrones left us with jaws dropped as Cercei Lannister took the Iron Throne and Danaerys Targaryen set sail for Westeros. The beginning of the Season though started on a good note with our beloved Jon Snow brought back to life, thanks to the Lord of Light. Though Alliser Thorne and Olly, along with the other betrayers lost their lives, there was no love lost and Melisandre soon left Castle Black, banished as a murderess by the Onion Knight.
The saddest death has to go to Hodor, the true hero who managed to “Hold The Door” to the end (note to Bran: please stop causing so much damage, you crippled little boy!). Osha, Walda Frey and her newborn baby, along with Roose met their ends at the hands of the Bolton Bastard. At the epic Battle of the Bastards, we lost the youngest Stark kid, Rickon and the Wildling giant Wun Wun, but were all smiles and uncharacteristically sadistic when Karstark and Ramsey Bolton both met their fates, the latter being eaten alive by his hungry hounds. Sansa Stark seemed to have the upper hand, though not so much now that there’s a new King in the North.
The finale this past Sunday had us at the edge of our seats with King Tommen jumping to his death after his Queen Regent wildfires the eff out of the High Sparrow, Margaery Tyrell, Kevan Lannister, Loras Tyrell, Lancel Lannister and Mace Tyrell. Also, Unella faces a ghastly end with the undead Mountain. Walder Frey at the Twins is served a pie of his two sons by Arya who gives him a death a la the Red Wedding. She has now ditched the Faceless men, Valar Murgholis’d the eff out of the Waif and is on her way back to Winterfell.
What’s Yet To Come…
Sooo, since we now have nothing left to do until next year, we might as well spend our time speculating, giving in to conspiracy theories and thanking the seven-faced god for the existence of GoT fans who keep the fires burning. We know that the Hound, Gregor Clegane is still alive and well, along with Beric Dondarrion. He might just seek a childhood revenge against his brother, Gregor. Also, Jaime Lannister didn’t look too happy about Cercei taking the throne and the prophecy of her meeting her end after the death of all her children might come to pass soon enough. Euron Greyjoy is on his way to plunder Oldtown that is now home to Samwell Tarly (a craven who happens to have the Dragonglass and a way to bring down the Wall). Sansa has Littlefinger by her side and may turn against her own half-brother to get a-hold of Winterfell, but her chances may be slim considering Jon Snow has seen death and lived to talk about it. And ohhh, now that we know Snow is half Stark-half Targaryen thanks to the Tower of Joy, what could it all mean? One thing’s for sure – the women of Westeros are at it again, a clash of fire and ice, with personal and professional vendettas that will blaze across Season 7. Let’s wait, though there’s still a lot of time to watch.
