American actress Reese Witherspoon was arrested on April 19, 2013 on a disorderly conduct charge. A state trooper alleged that the star would not stay in the car when her husband was giving a field sobriety test in Atlanta. After the arrest, the actress was released from jail and was in New York on April 21, 2013. Witherspoon was on the red carpet, but did not hesitate to talk to the reporters.
It was noticed by the trooper that the car was being driven by the husband of the actress, but he was not keeping to his lane. The traffic stop was initiated based on this and James Toth was asked to pass a sobriety test. Toth was found to have watery, bloodshot and droopy eyes, while his breath smelled strongly of alcohol.
The trooper was told that he had taken a drink, after which Witherspoon said that it was taken at a restaurant two hours before the traffic stop. Before the beginning of the sobriety test, the actress got out of her car and was immediately told to get back in the vehicle; she complied with this request. Toth was then placed under arrest and was charged with driving under the influence.
