The 85th Annual Academy Award winners were announced on February 24, 2013 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’, which has been winning big in every other major award ceremony leading up to the Oscars, took home the award for ‘Best Picture’. Daniel Day-Lewis went home with the ‘Best Actor’ award for his role in ‘Lincoln’, while Jennifer Lawrence won ‘Best Actress’ for ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’
Christoph Waltz took home his second ‘Best Supporting Actor’ award for his role in ‘Django Unchained’, while Ang Lee won ‘Best Director’ for ‘Life of Pi’. He managed to beat Steven Spielberg who had been favored for ‘Lincoln’. The charming Anne Hathaway won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for ‘Les Miserables. The Oscar Award for the Sound Editing category was tied for the fourth time in history, with teams from ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and ‘Skyfall’, both taking home golden statues.
Jennifer Hudson, Daniel Radcliffe and Catherine Zeta Jones performed a series of musical numbers as a tribute to movie musicals from the last decade. The cast of ‘Les Miserables’ including Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, received a big round of applause for their performance. Adele, who later won for ‘Best Original Song’, performed her award –winning hit ‘Skyfall’.
