After 36 long years, the multi-talented Barbara Streisand will be back on the stage of the Oscars this year on February 24, 2013, to give yet another magical musical performance. On March 28, 1977 she had performed for the first and only time for the Academy Awards ceremony, where she sang the love theme from ‘A star is born’ and on the same night she had also received her Best Original Song Oscar for ‘Evergreen’.
An eight-time Grammy Award winner and known as ‘the actress who sings’, Barbara has 51 gold, 30 platinum and 18 multiplatinum albums in her kitty. These numbers exceed all other female singers. Only Elvis Presley can boast of achieving more gold albums than she has.
The extremely powerful actress made her debut in 1968 with ‘Funny Girl’ and won the first of her two Oscars for her very first movie and was honored with the Best Actress award. She was again nominated in 1973 for her performance in a leading role for the movie ‘The Way We Were’.
A leading film star in dramas, comedies and musicals, Barbara also directed three films which received 14 Oscar nominations.
The multitalented artist had also been a producer, designer, photographer, author and activist. She remains the only artist ever to have received awards at the Oscars, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, National Medals of Arts, Peabody awards, Director’s Guild of America, France’s Legion d’honneur, as well as the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement award.
