The director of Star Wars, 68-year-old George Lucas is now engaged to Mellody Hobson, who is 25 years younger than him. Mellody, who is the chairman of DreamWorks Animation, has been dating Lucas ever since 2006 and this will be her first marriage.
The American film producer, director, screenwriter was previously married to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin and also has three adopted children.
Lucas is currently Disney’s largest shareholder, after the estate held by the late Steve Jobs and recently he had made headlines by donating $4 billion to an educational foundation from the sales of Lucasfilm Limited to Disney. Lucas has pledged to give half of his fortune to charity as a part of ‘The Giving Pledge’, led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
Mellody has also received many accolades and honors in the past. Her name has also been listed in the World Economic Forum’s ‘Global Leaders of Tomorrow’ in 2001, Esquire’s ‘America’s Best and Brightest’ in 2002 and in Wall Street Journal’s ’50 Women to Watch’ issue.
Even though the couple could appear odd to some due to the age difference involved, Lucas seems to be riding a high personally and professionally as well, as the veteran director is clearly in the twilight of his career and is looking to make the most of life at this point.
