Justin Beiber was the star of the evening at the recently concluded American Music Awards (AMA) held on November 18, 2012 in Los Angeles. The ‘Favorite Girl’ singer won three AMAs in all, including favorite artist of the year, favorite rock/pop male artist and favorite pop/rock album for Believe. The ‘Boyfriend’ singer had called his mother Pattie Malete onstage while accepting his final award for the evening.

Nicki Minaj was another artist who took home multiple awards, as the rapper cleaned up with favorite rap/hip-hop artist and her album ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ winning favoring rap/hip hop album. Taylor Swift won the favorite country female artist for the fifth year in a row and she thanked her fans by saying that they were ‘unreal’ for having voted for her.

Barbadian songstress Rihanna won the award for favorite soul/R&B album for ‘Talk That Talk’, while being nominated in four categories. Linkin Park won best alt rock artist, while Usher won best male soul/R&B artist. Luke Bryan won the award for best male country artist, while Carly Rae Jepsen won the new artist-of-the-year award.

The newly introduced Electronic Dance Music category saw David Guetta register a win and the DJ said that it was wonderful to see electronic music being recognized.
