Britney Spears accused of drug abuse as parents face legal battle

Britney Spears has been accused of taking drugs such as amphetamines by her former manager’s lawyer in court on October 18, 2012, as a legal battle between Spears’ parents and Sam Lufti has gotten underway. Sam Lufti has accused Jamie and Lynne Spears, who are Britney’s parents, for libel.

Lufti’s attorney described that his client had worked very hard to keep Spears off drugs before the singer’s father pushed Lufti out of the picture with a restraining order in 2008. He went on to say that his client was used as a scapegoat for Britney’s erratic behavior and drug problems.

The ‘Oops!…I Did it Again’ singer’s parents were seen taking notes and discussing things with their lawyer as Joseph Schleimer (Lufti’s lawyer) was making his opening statement. Britney’s parents are now divorced, but were seen sitting together in the courtroom.

According to Schleimer, Lufti had met Spears when the paparazzi used to follow her everywhere and that his client used to ensure that there was some order in the chaos, hinting that Spears was better off with Lufti in the picture.

Schleimer concluded by saying that his client’s reputation was ruined by the Spears’ as he was made famous for drugging the singer and putting her in hospital. He also mentioned that Lufti has never been paid for his services as the ‘Toxic’ singer’s manager.
