Georgia based guitar man, Phillip Phillips has been crowned as the new ‘American Idol’ on May 23, 2012. Phillips has become the fifth male singer to claim the ‘Idol’ title and defeated teenager Jessica Sanchez in record viewer voting.
21 year old Phillip is a pawn shop worker from Leesburg and was surprised when host Ryan Seacrest announced his name. The winner then reduced to tears as he sang ‘Home’, which might be his first single.
At his backstae dressing room the singer said, “I have no idea why I won, man, I guess some people liked the music that I was doing. I’m just lucky. … I was just doing my thing each week.” Phillips won with 132 million votes which was a record high cast after the final showdown on Tuesday.
However, the vote count was not announced. The last female to win ‘American Idol’ Jordin Sparks in the year 2007. Sanchez, who finished second on the show had a different view oin the results.The 16 year old said, “I don’t blame it on anything, Phillip has his fans, and I have mine. We’re totally two different people. Our genres are completely different.” 22 year old Spakrs was also one of the guests stars who appeared on the two hour finale show.
