Brett Ratner resigns as producer of 2012 Oscar Awards

Hollywood FAQs: American film maker Brett Ratner has resigned as the producer of the 2012 Academy Awards on 8th November. It was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that the 42-year-old filmmaker has submitted his resignation.

The filmmaker resigned a day after he apologized for the gay slur that he had used at the screening of his latest movie. Tom Sherak, the president of the Academy, said that Ratner did what was best for the Academy as well as for himself.

Sherak added that Brett is a good person, but his comments were not acceptable at all. In the month of August, the film producer was named as the Oscar Producer along with TV Veteran Don Mischer.

The film maker issued an open letter in which he had explained his resignation. The letter said that he had called the Academy president Tom Sherak in the morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards. The letter further added that being asked to put up the Oscars was the proudest moment of his career and added that this may be much more painful. On 8th November, Brett had apologized for using the gay slur at a question and answer session at the screening of his new film.
