The 27-year-old star said that the police illegally entered her apartment on Friday, May 24, 2013, after they were called to her mid-town building. The actress posted a message on Twitter on Saturday, May 25, 2013, in which she alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the officers. Paul Browne, chief spokesperson of NYPD said, “As it would with any such allegation, regardless of its credibility, IAB is investigating it”.

It was also discovered that the Twitter handle used to make these allegations does not appear to be verified by the social network. However, Jonathan Jaxson, former Hollywood publicist who is also Bynes’ friend said that the tweet was made from the star’s account.

While in court on May 24, 2013, the actress did not mention the sexual assault, but complained of illegal entry to her apartment. The actress has been charged with reckless endangerment, attempted tampering of evidence and unlawful possession of marijuana.
