American rapper Kris Kelly, who was one of the rappers of the duo Kris Kross along with Chris Smith, died in a hospital in Atlanta at the age of 34 on May 1, 2013. The rapper was found unresponsive at his residence by paramedics.
Kris Kelly was also known as Mac Daddy, while Smith was known as Daddy Mac. They became widely popular for their 1992 hit single ‘Jump’. The duo had performed in the month of February to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the So So Def label. The rapping duo were known for wearing their trousers backwards with extra baggy flair. This set a worldwide trend at the time.
The rappers had joined hands just at the age of 13 and were discovered at a mall in Atlanta. Kelly’s mother Donna Kelly Pratt had released a joint statement on Wednesday along with So So Def, in which she had called him kind, generous and fun-loving. The statement said, “It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1”.
So far no official confirmation has been announced on the death and an autopsy is due to be held today on May 2, 2013.
