This Spice Girl Is Divorcing Her Husband Over Domestic Abuse Allegations

Scary Spice Mel B is reportedly divorcing her husband, Stephen Belafonte after 10 years of marriage. As part of the divorce papers filed by the British pop singer, she has suffered years of abuse at the hands of Belafonte, and is seeking a restraining order against her soon-to-be ex.

Stephen Belafonte, 41, has responded to these allegations, dismissing them entirely. In a statement released by the legal representatives of the accused, it says, “What matters most to Mr. Belafonte is the safety and well-being of his daughters and step-daughters. It’s a shame that Ms. Brown elected not to proceed in a respectful and amicable fashion in this very private matter. In due course, Mr. Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms. Brown, whose allegations he vehemently denies.”

Another excerpt from the statement reads, “When the degree to which Ms. Brown has gone to create a false depiction of her marriage to Mr. Belafonte is uncovered, real victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse will be understandably offended, angry and upset.

In the papers filed by Mel B, she alleges that during the course of her decade-long marriage with Stephen Belafonte, that he mentally and emotionally abused. She claims that he often passed derogatory remarks about her intelligence or physical appearance, especially after she gave birth to their first child. She also said that he verbally threatened her life and that she was spied on and had to undergo surveillance.

Based on the papers filed by her, a judge has issued a restraining order against the accused, and he is not to come in verbal or physical contact with her or their collective children. He has been asked to vacate the house, and restrained from releasing any form of media to the public. He also will not be able to visit his children until a hearing that will take place on April 24.
