Can you believe that it’s been nearly two years since Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a seedy brothel in Los Angeles? For real, no one would have even known who he was, if it wasn’t for his high-profile marriage with Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Khloé Kardashian. All-of-a-sudden, their life became something of a media circus, with their reality show marriage, their separation, his hospitalization, their reconciliation and now, their permanent parting.

For Odom, all those times have been a bit hazy, but he still remembers the emotions behind it. In his first interview since he revived from a coma and completed rehab, he spoke to Us Weekly about that time. “When I became Khloé Kardashian’s man and on TV, it made me look more enticing. People who didn’t even know basketball [Lamar Odom played for the Los Angeles Clippers] would approach me because they knew Lammy. If there is one thing I regret when I was married, it was having multiple affairs with different women. That wasn’t the stand-up thing to do.”

After catching him in his “man cave” she had built for him, Khloé Kardashian walked out of her four year marriage. They were just separated, not divorced yet. Instead of going back to his estranged wife, Lamar took to more drugs for solace. “I was in a very dark place and very confrontational. I wasn’t trying to repair my marriage; I was just trying to get high. My life was all about drugs at that point.”

The headlines were jammed with reports that Lamar Odom was found unresponsive at a brothel. As medical reports emerged, the public came to know that he was in a comatose state and paralysed. However, he doesn’t even remember how he got there. “I was home by myself. Bored. I wanted to get out and have a good time. Looking back, I might have had a drink to get the mood started, but was I drunk or on drugs? Not at all. I remember lying in bed. Two women were in bed when I fell asleep. That’s all. When I woke up four days later, I was trying to pull the tubes out of my mouth.”

He says that Khloé was the first one to greet him when he opened his eyes. She had put their divorce on hold, and was by his side constantly during that time. However, once he recovered and got back on his feet, metaphorically and literally, she resumed their divorce proceedings. Today, she is happily in love with another basketball player, Tristan Thomson.

As for Lamar Odom, he’s just happy to be alive. “I’m a walking miracle. I had no choice but to become stronger. I’m here talking to you. So, I guess I’m winning. Living sober, meaning no drugs, is a great feeling. Being in the moment is important – how you react, respond, create.”
