“So there’s a lot exciting stuff going on. Congratulations to me. I’m hosting the Oscars – and I had sex. Two things, as a teenage boy, I never thought would be possible.” – Jimmy on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Jimmy Kimmel will in February 2017 host the Oscars. The late night host will be the emcee for the 89th Academy Awards. This will be the first time that Kimmel will preside over the ceremony. This is, however, not his first time hosting an awards ceremony. He has in the past hosted the Emmy Awards twice and the ESPY Awards once. ABC, home of the Oscars telecast, stands to benefit a great deal from Kimmel’s selection. Also, the company entered into a contract with the Academy of Motion Pictures to continue broadcasting the Oscars until 2028.

Kimmel posted on Twitter, reassuring his fans that his appointment to host the Oscar Awards 2017 was no joke. This year’s announcement came later than usual but the announcement was well received. Kimmel broke the news to his Jimmy Kimmel Live audience, receiving a huge applause. He went on to make a few jokes about his appointment with his show sidekick, Guillermo Rodrigues.
“Marijuana will be legal for recreational use in February, maybe you can pass some of that our on the red carpet before the show, and then we just see what happens,” He suggested to Guillermo Rodriguez. “My goal is to somehow get arrested during the hosting of the show.”
This year’s show will be produced by Michael De Luca, a veteran producer, and Jennifer Todd. Pearl Street Films, Matt Damon’s production company, will be in charge of the production. This marks their first time producing the Oscars.
This year’s search was under a lot of pressure following last year’s show that featured all-white acting nominees for the second year straight. The show received widespread criticism and hit an 11-year low viewership. Ben Sherwood, ABC Television Group chief is confident that Kimmel will do an amazing job and even publicly lobbied for him.
Apart from this huge appointment, Kimmel had more good news to share with his audience;
