Carrie Fisher Dishes on Affair with Harrison Ford During Star Wars

How exciting is it to have some juicy gossip actually be proven true, even though it’s been decades since said juicy gossip was relevant. And this isn’t some “source” dishing the details, this comes straight from the horse’s, or should we say, princess’ mouth in a memoir worth all the speculation in the world, or galaxy far, far away.

So Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in George Lucas’ epic Star Wars movies, was the on-screen love interest of Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo. At the time, Fisher was just 19-years-old while Ford was a 33-year-old married actor with two sons. According to Carrie: “It was so intense. It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.”

It seems that she kept the affair a secret for 40 long years, but decided to reveal it to the world after finding angsty diaries she wrote at the time while in London shooting for the films. It seems that the hot romance lasted for three months, and once shooting was done, they went their separate ways. The romance began at the time they held a birthday bash for George Lucas. Carrie reminisces: “I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face – a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow. How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me? I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him. He was kind.”

It would be 21 years of what seemed a happy marriage with Harrison and his screenwriting wife, Melissa Mathison, who divorced all the way in 2004. Wonder if she knew about the affair. And the Indiana Jones actor was informed about the upcoming book, though he hasn’t made any statement or comment. He moved on with long-term partner, Ally McBeal star, Calista Flockhart. In fact, he’s doing pretty well, being recast as Han Solo (along with his beloved sidekick, Chewbacca) in this year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens where we saw him for the last time, having been killed by his son, Kylo Ren.

You can catch the entire tale and so many more exciting tidbits from the life of Carrie Fisher in her new book The Princess Diarist out November 22. The complete real-life story of the affair of the ’70s, between Leia and Han can be read in this Friday’s issue of People Magazine.
