Kristen Bell Talks About Husband Dax’s Dark Past

You regularly see them on the red carpet, all bubbly and generally happy about the life they have built together. But like any other regular couple, they have each faced their own dark pasts. Last month, actress Kristen Bell had spoken about how she battled with depression, and still does, to this day. The world came to understand a whole new side to the Bad Moms star, and many sided with her on mental illness that others usually choose to keep a secret. Now, Kristen has opened up on her husband, fellow actor Dax Shepard, and his own demons that he struggled with, prior to meeting her.

On CBS’ Sunday Morning, Kristen said of Dax: “He’s a wonderful father. He knows the value of things. He was an addict for many, many years and he pulled himself out of it, and he’s been sober for 11-12 years now. And he knows how many times he’s messed up, and how many times he’s been really close to losing everything”. Though she didn’t specify exactly what type of drug or to what extent his addictions took him, it’s really hard to imagine what the comedian must have been through and how he got himself out of it.

She also talked about her wedding to Dax, something not typically out of a fairytale. For starters, she didn’t have the typical white dress and lavish ceremony that many of her fellow Hollywood stars are known for indulging in. She reminisced, “We got married in a tiny room in the Beverly Hills courthouse, and it was one of the best days of my life”.

Today she and Dax and parents to two beautiful daughters – Lincoln, 3 and Delta, 18 months. “I always think, if I’m on my deathbed, what am I going to be thinking about? And it won’t be some random movie I participated in, or some TV show. It will be my family”.

It’s great to see an A-list actor be so down-to-earth and understand the true priorities in life. We wish Kristen and Dax a happy married life together with their expanding brood!
