Mariah Carey performs along with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots

To begin the Christmas season, Mariah Carey has joined Jimmy Fallon and The Roots for the holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. The musicians played on a collection of classroom toy instruments and were filmed backstage on the late night host’s show on December 4, 2012.

Although the song might not be considered by some to be the greatest ever sung, it surely captured the Christmas spirit on the show. The three minutes and 36 second performance had Fallon showing off his musical ability by playing tambourine, bass drum , kazoo and a wood block.

The performance also had a choir of four young school girls who were in the frame every time the chorus started. However, the star of the video was Mariah Carey herself whose voice glided over Mark Kelly’s Fisher Price xylophone.

The original song debuted in the year 1994 and since then it has been counted among the all-time great hits of Christmas. It has also been covered by Justin Bieber and Michael Buble. Earlier, the kindergarten music room was taken over by Fallon and his house during the summer for a rendition of ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepson and featured the Canadian pop star herself.
