Chuck Brown dies at age of 75 of pneumonia

Popular American singer and guitarist, Chuck Brown died at the age of 75, after suffering from pneumonia. Brown who was popularly known as the ‘Godfather of go-go’, died on May 17, 2012 at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore.

The news was confirmed by hospital spokesperson Gary Stephenson, who said that Brown died after a hospital stay began on April 18. Mayor Vincent Gray said that the nations’s capital will be a different place without Brown.

Several admirers and fans of the singer were called on May 16, evening to a candle light vigil in Washington. A sound truck was to blast a special Chuck Brown music mix to the crowd in remembrance of the musician before a prayer session.

Gray said, “Go-go is D.C.’s very own unique contribution to the world of pop music”. The mayor also said that it was a very sad day for the music lovers the world over. In the year 2007, the musician told the reporters that go-go was influenced by the sounds and fast beats which he heard early in life. It was Brown’s hit ‘Bustin’ Loose’ with his group, the Soul Searchers which help define go-go’s sound. The track also spent several weeks at the top of the R&B charts in the 70s.
